Jennifer’s teaching career has spanned a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate music-related courses across several universities including Oxford Brookes University, Southampton Solent University, Brunel University, University of Bristol, Bucks New University and St Catherine’s College Oxford.
Jennifer’s academic specialisms include music journalism, popular music and politics, popular music and identity, critical theory and popular music cultures.
Jennifer’s PhD focused on English music journalism in the quality press between 1981 – 1991 and her research has been disseminated through published scholarly works, conference papers, radio discussions, public talks and a museum exhibition.
Jennifer recently collaborated with colleagues from Oxford Brookes University on a funded research project examining the works of English rock band Squeeze and issues relating to music and copyright.
Jennifer’s career has also included roles in Human Resource Management and small business ownership and she therefore particularly enjoys any opportunity to combine this background with her academic specialisms to deliver courses relating to the creative music industries, music portfolio careers and entrepreneurship.
As a music practitioner Jennifer plays and teaches the flute and sings in a community choir specializing in new arrangements of pop classics.
